Getting Started

What is Between Us?

Between Us is a private couples app for daily prompts, shared reveals, journals, date planning, memories, signals, and recaps.

Between Us is for thriving couples only. It is not a therapy app, relationship repair tool, crisis service, or substitute for professional support.

Who is Between Us for?

Between Us is for adults in relationships who already feel safe and respected and want to deepen connection.

It is not appropriate for couples navigating abuse, coercion, serious trust breakdowns, active crisis, or separation decisions. If your relationship needs professional support, please contact a qualified therapist, counselor, attorney, emergency service, or local support organization.

Is Between Us inclusive?

Yes. Between Us is designed to be inclusive of adults across orientations, identities, relationship structures, cultures, and relationship lengths. The app does not require you to provide sexual orientation as an account field.

How much does it cost?

  • Free version: 1 guided prompt answer per day, weekly previews across Heat levels 1-5, limited date and intimacy position previews, 1 full date flow per week, partner linking, and supported data export. Viewing or revealing limited free prompts and date ideas may count toward free usage limits.
  • Premium Monthly: fallback display price $7.99/month.
  • Premium Yearly: fallback display price $49.99/year.

Actual prices, trials, offers, taxes, and currency are shown by the App Store or RevenueCat purchase flow and may vary by region or store configuration.

How do I get started?

  1. Create your account.
  2. Add your names and preferences.
  3. Link with your partner, if you want the shared experience.
  4. Answer prompts, plan dates, and save moments.

Account and Setup

Do I need my partner to use the app?

No. You can use Between Us solo for prompts, notes, journaling, reflection, and date ideas. Linking with a partner unlocks the shared reveal and couple-space experience.

How do I link with my partner?

  1. Both partners create accounts.
  2. One partner generates an invite code or QR code.
  3. The other partner scans the QR code or enters the code.
  4. Both accounts are linked into one couple space.

Can I unlink from my partner?

Yes. Either partner can unlink. Unlinking dissolves the shared couple connection, stops future shared syncing, and leaves your separate account in place. Historical shared content may remain until deleted or until a cleanup process applies.

Can I link with multiple partners?

Not at the same time. Between Us currently supports one linked partner at a time.

Privacy and Security

Is my data private?

Between Us protects data with account authentication, Supabase row-level security, HTTPS/TLS, provider-side security controls, app access controls, and optional app lock on your device. We do not sell your personal data and do not use advertising networks.

Is my content end-to-end encrypted?

No. The active storage architecture does not currently provide end-to-end encryption for core synced content. Journals, prompt answers, memories, check-ins, vibes, calendar events, date plans, and media attachments are protected by account access controls and transport security, but they are not currently encrypted end-to-end before upload.

Can Between Us read my journal entries?

Journal entries are not currently end-to-end encrypted. We restrict access through authentication, row-level security, internal access controls, and service-provider protections, but we cannot accurately claim that our systems are technically unable to access core synced content.

Can my partner see everything I write?

Between Us is built around shared couple-space content. Your linked partner may be able to access content stored in that shared couple space according to the feature flow. Prompt answers are designed to reveal through the shared reveal experience. App-lock settings, payment info, password credentials, and biometric data are not shared with your partner.

What happens if we break up?

You can unlink from your partner. Unlinking dissolves the shared couple connection and stops future shared syncing. You can also delete your account if you want your account and supported data removed according to the deletion flow.

Does the app collect biometric data?

No. Face ID and Touch ID are handled by your device. Between Us receives only a success/failure result from the device authentication prompt and does not collect, store, or transmit biometric templates.

What data may stay only on my device?

Some data is cached on your device, such as cached synced content, offline write queues, notification ids, app-lock enabled state, and cache-only preference history. Some settings, including energy level, relationship climate, and soft boundaries, may also sync to your profile so they can be restored across devices.

What third-party services do you use?

Between Us uses Supabase for authentication, database, storage, backend functions, and realtime features; RevenueCat for subscriptions; Sentry for crash reporting, performance monitoring, limited session replay, and optional feedback; Expo for notifications and app services; and Apple for App Store distribution and payment processing.

Features and Usage

What are Heat Levels?

  • Heat 1: Emotional connection.
  • Heat 2: Flirty and romantic.
  • Heat 3: Sensual.
  • Heat 4: Steamy and Adventurous.
  • Heat 5: Explicit.

Free users can preview Heat levels 1-5. Premium unlocks a growing library of prompts, date ideas, and intimacy positions over time, with new content released to you weekly.

How do prompts work?

  1. Open the app and view a prompt.
  2. Write your answer.
  3. If linked, your partner can answer too.
  4. Use the reveal flow to see answers together.
  5. Save meaningful moments to your archive.

Can I skip prompts I don't like?

Yes. You can skip prompts, refresh where available, lower heat level, use soft boundaries, or hide categories.

How are prompts personalized?

The app may use relationship duration, heat level, energy level, relationship climate, soft boundaries, prompt engagement, and local preference signals to shape recommendations. Some personalization happens locally and some synced preferences may be stored in your profile for continuity.

What are Vibe Signals and Moment Signals?

Vibe Signals and Moment Signals are quick ways to share mood, presence, or "thinking of you" moments with your linked partner when connectivity allows.

What is Reveal Together?

Reveal Together is the flow where partners answer and then reveal prompt responses in a shared moment.

What are Soft Boundaries?

Soft Boundaries let you hide or pause content categories you do not want to see. They are designed as your own content controls. Some related settings may sync to your profile for backup or cross-device continuity.

What is the Energy Matcher?

Energy Matcher lets you set a current energy level so the app can suggest prompts and dates that better match the moment.

What is the Inside Jokes vault?

The Inside Jokes vault is a place to save relationship language, nicknames, references, and special phrases. Some inside-joke data may be local to the device depending on the feature path.

What is Year Reflection?

Year Reflection and recap features summarize relationship moments from supported app data such as journals, dates, memories, answers, and signals.

What is Surprise Today?

Surprise Today suggests spontaneous date or connection ideas based on available preferences and context.

Can I lock the app with Face ID, Touch ID, or PIN?

Yes. You can enable app lock in Settings > Privacy & Security. App lock controls access on the device. It does not mean synced server content is end-to-end encrypted.

Subscription and Billing

What's included in Premium?

Premium may include:

  • A growing library of prompts, date ideas, and intimacy positions, with new content released to you weekly.
  • Full access to all 5 Heat Levels.
  • Shared calendar features.
  • Vibe and moment signals.
  • Energy Matcher.
  • Inside Jokes features.
  • Year Reflection and recaps.
  • Surprise Today.
  • Shared premium access for linked partners when entitlement sync is available.

The exact premium features available to you are shown in the app and purchase flow.

How do I subscribe?

  1. Open a premium experience or paywall in the app.
  2. Choose a monthly or yearly plan.
  3. Confirm through the App Store purchase flow.
  4. Premium activates after purchase confirmation.
  5. If linked, your partner may receive shared access after entitlement sync completes.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. On iOS, go to Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions and cancel Between Us. Your premium access generally continues until the end of the current billing period unless the App Store indicates otherwise.

Do you offer refunds?

Refunds are handled by Apple according to Apple's policies. We cannot directly issue App Store refunds.

Can I share Premium with my partner?

Premium is intended to support the linked-couple premium experience. One subscription is intended to cover both linked partners after account linking and entitlement sync complete. If you unlink, your partner may lose access unless they subscribe separately.

Technical Support

The app isn't working. What should I do?

  1. Force close and reopen the app.
  2. Check your internet connection.
  3. Check for app updates.
  4. Restart your device.
  5. Contact support if the issue continues.

My partner and I aren't syncing. Help!

Check that:

  • Both partners have internet access.
  • Both partners are signed in.
  • Your accounts are still linked.
  • You are using the latest available app version.
  • You have not recently unlinked or switched accounts.

I forgot my password. What can I do?

Use the password recovery flow to request a 6-digit recovery code by email and set a new password. If Magic Link sign-in is available in your build, you can use it for passwordless access.

How do I delete my account?

  1. Go to Settings > Account.
  2. Tap Delete Account.
  3. Type DELETE when prompted.
  4. Confirm deletion.

Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone once completed. Active account data is removed according to the app's deletion flow and Privacy Policy. Backup copies may persist for a limited period before routine purge.

I'm not receiving notifications. Why?

Check that:

  • Notifications are enabled in app settings.
  • Notifications are allowed in device settings.
  • Do Not Disturb or Focus modes are not blocking notifications.
  • Your device has network access.

Can I use Between Us on multiple devices?

Yes, you can sign in on multiple devices. Synced data can appear across devices after sign-in and sync. Pending offline changes and cache-only preferences may not be recoverable on another device.

Content and Prompts

How many prompts are there?

The current content catalog includes 731 prompts across 5 heat levels and 13 prompt categories.

How many date ideas are there?

The current date catalog includes 526 date ideas.

Are prompts appropriate for all couples?

Prompts are designed to be inclusive and respectful, but not every prompt will fit every relationship or moment. Use heat levels, skipping, and soft boundaries to stay within your comfort level.

Can I suggest new prompts?

Do prompts repeat?

The app tries to reduce repetition through prompt selection, history, and personalization. Repeats may still happen, especially if you use a narrow heat level or content filter.

Safety and Wellbeing

Is Between Us a substitute for therapy?

No. Between Us is not therapy, counseling, medical care, legal advice, crisis support, or relationship repair.

When should we NOT use Between Us?

Do not rely on Between Us for serious relationship concerns, abuse, coercion, threats, infidelity recovery, separation decisions, or crisis situations. Seek qualified help.

What if prompts trigger difficult emotions?

Skip the prompt, lower the heat level, use soft boundaries, take a break, and seek professional support if needed.

What if I experience harassment or feel unsafe?

Unlink from your partner if it is safe to do so, contact support, and reach out to appropriate safety resources. If you are in immediate danger, contact local emergency services.

Miscellaneous

Does Between Us work offline?

Between Us supports offline continuity for some actions through local cache and an offline write queue. Supabase is the canonical source of truth when online. Pending local writes sync when connectivity and account state allow.

What languages do you support?

Currently, Between Us is English-first.

Can I export my data?

Yes. Supported export data may include journals, prompt answers, memories, check-ins, vibes, calendar events, date plans, and account details.

Exports are prepared as a plaintext JSON file for the system share sheet. Between Us removes the temporary export file from app storage after the export flow completes. Any copy you save or share from the share sheet is controlled by the destination you choose.

Do you have a desktop version?

No. Between Us is currently a mobile app.
